Summary The Black Maternal Health Center of Excellence (BMHCE) of the Department of Public Health at Charles R. Drew University in the College of Science and Health is seeking a Health Education and Evaluation Specialist to work with the leadership of the BMHCE to advance the development, implementation, and evaluation of maternal child health and birth equity health education and training initiatives for health science students, faculty, staff, professionals and patients. The role involves collaborating with the leadership team to develop, implement, and evaluate training programs aimed at improving Black maternal health care, specifically for health professionals. Key responsibilities include: (1) developing health education and training Materials for educational and training programs related to Black Maternal Health; (2) creating an evaluation plan that is structured to assess the effectiveness of the trainings; (3) implementing trainings through supporting the delivery and execution of the training sessions to healthcare professionals and students; and (4) conducting evaluations to measure the success of the training initiatives and their impact on maternal-child health outcomes. The position emphasizes improving workforce expertise in providing high-quality, culturally appropriate care , particularly within the Safety-Net Perinatal Medical Home (SN-PMH) framework. The role also requires the ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Collaborate with leadership to develop and design health education and training materials focused on maternal and child health and birth equity. Incorporate best practices in maternal healthcare and health science education into training materials.
Design an evaluation framework to assess the impact and effectiveness of the training initiatives.
Develop appropriate metrics and indicators to measure outcomes related to maternal-child morbidity, mortality, and healthcare quality.
Ensure the evaluation plan aligns with the program's overall goals and objectives .
Assist in organizing and delivering training sessions for healthcare professionals, faculty, staff, and students including providing technical and administrative support during training sessions, including monitoring participant engagement and addressing questions.
Implement the designed evaluation plan to measure the effectiveness of the training programs.
Collect, analyze, and interpret data from trainings to evaluate their impact on healthcare delivery and outcomes.
Prepare reports summarizing evaluation results and provide recommendations for improvements.
Work closely with diverse stakeholders, including health science students, faculty, staff, and Black maternal health professionals, to ensure that all training initiatives meet their needs.
Regularly communicate progress, challenges, and outcomes of training initiatives to BMHCE leadership and stakeholders.
Contribute to grant proposals, progress reports, and presentations related to maternal and child health programs.
Stay updated on the latest research, best practices, and innovations in maternal health and birth equity.
Provide feedback and recommendations for ongoing improvements to the training and evaluation processes.
Assist with other evaluation-related activities within the BMHCE as needed, such as literature reviews, data collection, and dissemination of research findings.
Participate in professional development and attend relevant workshops, conferences, and seminars.
Participates in grant meetings and projects as appropriate .
Expected to make independent decisions on certain aspects of development and evaluation while still receiving oversight from Principal Investigators.
Education and Experience Requirements:
A doctoral degree (PhD, DrPH, or equivalent) in public health, epidemiology, health policy, education, or a related field.
If the doctoral degree is pending, documentation showing thesis approval and the expected graduation date is required .
The faculty mentor is responsible for verifying all educational documentation.
Two (2) - Four (4) years of professional experience in education and/or public health education , research, and/or evaluation with advanced knowledge of maternal child health and birth equity is required .
Master's degree will also be considered and should apply if they meet the minimum experience requirements.
Preferred Field of Expertise:
Expertise in maternal and child health, public health, health equity, or related fields such as epidemiology, community health, or social determinants of health.
Demonstrated commitment to improving Black maternal health and addressing birth equity disparities.
Experience in designing, implementing, and evaluating health-related training programs or interventions.
Publications in peer-reviewed journals related to maternal health, public health, healthcare equity, or similar areas.
Skills:
Analysis: Ability to conduct in-depth analysis of maternal health data and outcomes.
Assessment/Evaluation: Expertise in designing and implementing evaluation plans to assess healthcare initiatives.
Communication: Strong written and oral communication skills for disseminating findings and engaging diverse audiences.
Conceptualization and Design: Capable of conceptualizing health programs and developing culturally relevant training materials.
Organization and Planning: Strong organizational skills for managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines.
Problem Identification and Resolution: Proficient in identifying challenges in maternal healthcare delivery and developing practical solutions.
Project Management: Experience in managing complex health projects and coordinating multiple stakeholders.
Evaluation: Skilled in conducting both qualitative and quantitative evaluation in education and maternal health.
Statistical Analysis: Ability to apply statistical methods to analyze healthcare data and evaluate program effectiveness.
Supervises Level: May oversee students, temporary, and/or casual workers.
Compensation: - $64,100 - $100,200 annual salary
Position Status: - Full-Time, Conditional Employment
Conditional Employment: The employment status of this position is classified as “Conditional.” Conditional employment means that the job exists contingent upon continued funding and limitations of restricted funds or the duration of a specific program, project, grant, or contract. Since your salary is funded by
Maternal Health Services and end date of 9/30/2025 , your position is contingent upon the continued receipt of these funds. Continuation of your position is dependent, in part, upon funding availability. Furthermore, no work may be performed after the grant end date(s) unless you have received an extension in writing from a Dean, Division VP, or Human Resources.
